Rinde Eckert’s Slide to Debut at Ojai Music Festival

Librettist / director Rinde Eckert’s new collaboration with composer/guitarist Steven Mackey, Slide, will make its world premiere as part of the 2009 Ojai Music Festival, to be held in Ojai, California, June 11-14.

This concert-length, multidisciplinary, music/theater work was co-commissioned by the festival, and is about the seduction and manipulation of the American psyche. It will feature Eckert, Mackey, and the Grammy Award-winning sextet eighth blackbird.

The Festival will also feature Tin Hat, QNG (Quartet New Generation), Jeremy Denk, Trimpin, Amy Briggs, Lucy Shelton, and Mark DeChiazza.

Eckert was a 2007 Pulitzer Prize finalist for Drama for Orpheus X, won an Obie Award for And God Created Great Whales, and received a Drama Desk nomination and a Lucille Lortel Award for Horizon.
