Full casting has been announced for the Geffen Playhouse’s West Coast premiere of Conor McPherson’s The Seafarer, to run April 14-May 24, with an opening set for April 22. Randall Arney will direct.

Set in Dublin on Christmas Eve, the play follows Sharky, who has returned home to look after his aging brother who’s recently gone blind. With old drinking buddies on hand for a card game and the arrival of a stranger from the distant past, the stakes get raised and Sharky finds himself playing for his very soul.

In addition to the previously announced John Mahoney, who will play Richard Harkin, the cast will include Andrew Connolly (Sharky), Tom Irwin (Mr. Lockhart), Paul Vincent O’Connor (Ivan), and Matt Roth (Nicky).

The production will feature set design by Takeshi Kata, costume design by Janice Pytel, lighting design by Daniel Ionazzi, and sound design by Richard Woodbury.

Arney, who is the Geffen’s artistic director, previously directed Mahoney and Irwin in the play at Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theatre earlier this season.
