The Book of Mormon, Tony Bennett, Rinde Eckert, Alan Menken Win Grammy Awards

Winners of the 54th Annual Grammy Awards have been announced. The ceremony was aired live on CBS, and hosted by LL Cool J.

The Original Broadway Cast Recording of The Book of Mormon, by Trey Parker, Matt Stone, Robert Lopez won for Best Musical Theater Album. Alan Menken and Glenn Slater won Best Song Written For Visual Media for “I See the Light” from Tangled.

Tony Bennett’s Duets II won for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album. Adams: Doctor Atomic, conducted by Alan Gilbert for the Metropolitan Opera, won for Best Opera Recording. Rinde Eckert, Steven Mackey, and Eighth Blackbird won in the category of Best Small Ensemble Performance for Mackey: Lonely Motel – Music From Slide.

The evening’s big winners included Adele, who took home numerous awards, including Record of the Year and Album of the Year, Foo Fighters, Taylor Swift, Lady Antebellum, Bon Iver, and Chris Brown.

Singer Alicia Keys, who is the producer and composer of Broadway’s Stick Fly, performed at the show alongside Grammy winner Bonnie Raitt in a tribute to the late singer, Etta James. Oscar winner and Grammy Award winner Jennifer Hudson took part in a tribute to singer Whitney Houston, who died suddenly on February 11.


Other performers included The Beach Boys, Tony Bennett, Carrie Underwood, Chris Brown, Daedalus 5, Adele, Paul McCartney, Rihanna, Coldplay, Foo Fighters, Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars, Jason Aldean, Foster the People, Maroon 5, Diana Krall, The Civil Wars, Joe Walsh, Kelly Clarkson, Glen Campbell, The Band Perry, Blake Shelton, David Guetta, Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry, and Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band.


Presenters included Broadway veterans Diana Ross, Neil Patrick Harris, and Reba McEntire, along with Common, Taraji P. Henson, Marc Anthony, Dierks Bentley, Jack Black, Drake, Fergie, Lady Antebellum, Miranda Lambert, Gwyneth Paltrow, Ryan Seacrest, and Stevie Wonder.
