Lyricist Hal David was honored by Los Angeles Music Center and Club 100 at the Crystal Ballroom of the Millennium Biltmore Hotel on Sunday, January 30.
The event was hosted by Paul Williams, who sang snippets of David’s hits such as “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ On My Head,” “I’ll Never Fall In Love Again,” “Close To You,” and “Walk On By.” Sally Kellerman also performed a selection of David’s songs.
Additional attendees included Gary Austin, Robert David Hall, Tippi Hedren, Florence Henderson, and Barbra Van Orden.
David received a Tony nomination for his lyrics to Promises, Promises, with additional Broadway credits including the revues The Look of Love and Andre DeShields’ Harlem Nocturne. He frequently partnered with composer Burt Bacharach.
