Padua Playwrights Announces Cast for Murray Mednick’s DaddyO Dies Well

Padua Playwrights has announced casting for its world premiere production of Murray Mednick’s DaddyO Dies Well, to be presented at Electric Lodge, April 2-May 22. Mednick will direct the production, which is the fifth installment in his eight-play “Gary Plays” cycle.

In DaddyO Dies Well, down-on-his-luck Gary takes a psychedelic Ayahuasca trip at the behest of DaddyO, his hipster stepfather. DaddyO is dying, and before he goes, he wants to help his stepson get over his problems. He invites Gary over for tea – but this is not your ordinary Earl Grey. It’s Ayahuasca, a powerful hallucinogenic.

Unemployed actor Gary Bean, was first introduced to audiences in 2003 when Padua presented the first three plays in the cycle, Tirade for Three, Gary’s Walk, and Girl on a Bed, in repertory. The fourth play, Out of the Blue, premiered in 2006, and plans are currently in the works for L.A. productions of plays six, seven and eight. The entire octet will be published by Sideshow Books and distributed by TCG this spring.

The cast will feature Casey Sullivan as Gary, Hugh Dane as DaddyO, Jack Kehler as Dr. Jones, Elizabeth Greer as Gloria, Melissa Paladino as Marcia, Strawn Bovee as Mama Bean, and Peggy Ann Blow as Antonio, the “Angel of Death.”

The production will feature set design by Matt Aston, lighting design by Dan Reed, costume design by Melody Brocious, projection design by Marc I. Rosenthal, and sound design by John Zalewski.
