Eddie Izzard, Donald Sutherland, Elijah Wood to Star in Syfy’s Treasure Island Miniseries

Broadway veterans Eddie Izzard and Donald Sutherland will star in a two-part Treasure Island miniseries for Syfy, according to a report in Variety. Steve Barron is directing the project, which is scheduled to air in early 2012 and has a script by Stewart Harcourt.

Based on the novel by Robert Louis Stevenson, Treasure Island is the classic tale of a young man’s adventures with the pirate Long John Silver (to be played by Izzard). and Sutherland will play Flint.

In addition, Elijah Wood has been cast as Ben Gunna, and the cast includes Shirley Henderson, Toby Regbo, Phillip Glenister, Rupert Penry-Jones, Daniel Mays, David Harewood and Keith Allen.

Izzard was recently seen on Broadway in David Mamet’s Race. He received a Tony Award nomination for the Roundabout Theatre’s revival of A Day in the Death of Joe Egg, and his other stage credits include Lenny and Mamet’s The Cryptogram. Sutherland’s stage credits include Buck White and Lolita on Broadway and Ten Unknowns Off-Broadway.
