Del Shores will direct a film version of his play The Trials and Tribulations of a Trailer Trash Housewife, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The movie, like the play, is set in the South, and examines the lives of battered women. The film will use the original cast from the Los Angeles production of the play, including Beth Grant, who won L.A. Drama Critics Circle, Ovation Award and Backstage West Garland Awards for her performance as Willadean Winkler. The cast also features Dale Dickey, Octavia Spencer, David Steen, and Debby Holiday.

Two of Shores’ other plays have been made into films: Sordid Lives and Daddy’s Dyin’ (Who’s Got the Will?). Among his other plays are Yellow, Cheatin’, and Southern Baptist Sissies.

Trailer Trash was originally produced at the Zephyr Theatre in 2003 and revived by the company in 2006.
