South Coast Repertory will present a staged reading of Bill Cain's How to Write a New Book for the Bible: A Play for an Older Actress, on March 8 at 7:30pm. Jessica Kubzansky will direct the reading, which is part of SCR's NewSCRipts series.

The play features a central character named Bill Cain, who, like the playwright, is a writer and Jesuit priest. Bill has come home to care for his dying mother -- a funny, tough, maddening woman. Cain's plays also include Equivocation, which is currently being given its New York premiere Off-Broadway by Manhattan Theatre Club.

Following the reading, which takes place on the Argyros Stage, audience members can participate in discussions with the playwright.
