The production line-up for the J. Paul Getty Museum’s 2009 Villa Theater Lab Series has been announced, featuring four fresh presentations of classical works.

The series will open with Ghost Road Company’s Orestes, February 20-22, the company’s new work-in-progress drawn from The Oresteia by Aeschylus. In April, the Troubadour Theater Company will present Oedipus: The King!, April 17-19, a transplant of Sophocles’ story to Graceland from the Commedia dell’Arte style ensemble of actors, musicians, and comedians.

SITI Company will stage Antigone, May 15-17, with Anne Bogart at the helm, an adaptation of Sophocles’ story by Irish translator and dramaturge Jocelyn Clarke. The series will close in September with Aristophanes’ Peace, September 3-October 3, a utopian comedy set in 421 B.C. when twenty-seven-year-old Aristophanes presented a new play that ridiculed the entrenched “military-industrial complex” of ancient Athens.
