Lucy Deutsch’s Autobiographical Musical No Time to Weep to Play the Matrix

Lucy Deutsch will present her autobiographical musical No Time to Weep, a guest production of the Matrix Theatre, produced and directed by Ivor Pyres, beginning March 31.

Deutsch, a Holocaust survivor, brings her experience in Auschwitz to life through her art of writing, poetry, and songs. Set in Hungry in 1944, Lucy Deutsch, at the age of 14, is removed with her family from their home and placed in a ghetto, from where they are sent to Auschwitz. She is the only member of her family to survive. Enduring her ordeal through determination, strength, bull-headedness, and a child’s fearless innocence, she comes of age when, coming home after Auschwitz, she realizes she is no longer a child and cannot play with her friends any more. The words of her songs tell the story, while the music has all the compassion of a young spirit.

The cast will include Kyla Brown, Christopher Callen, Patricia Canale, Sylvyanne Chebance, Caitlin Gallogly, Heidi James, Jenny Kelly, Gage Maverik, Alexandra Menna, Serena Orrego, Nancy Dobbs Owen, Garen Perossian, Bobby Reed, Toni Trenton, and Sarah Ann Vail.

No Time to Weep‘s creative team includes Lucy Deutsch (writer and lyricist ), Deedee O’Malley, Herman Biftink, Ivor Pyres (composers), and Ivor Pyres (director, producer, arranger).
