Rita McKenzie to Star in Ethel Merman’s Broadway at El Portal Theatre

Rita McKenzie will star in the musical, Ethel Merman’s Broadway, at the El Portal Theatre, February 16-27. Christopher Powich will direct.

The show re-creates the life and times of Ethel Merman, the Queen of Broadway’s Golden Age. During her era, Merman introduced songs, characters and stories that have remained a permanent part of our culture. The production is currently planning a limited Broadway engagement.

David Snyder is the Musical Director/Arranger for the 12-piece orchestra. The production also features set by Yael Pardess, lighting by Driscoll Otto, costume design by Eric Winterling, projections by David Foster, sound design by Matt Kraus and wig design by Paul Huntley.

In addition to performing Ethel Merman’s Broadway at various stages, McKenzie has performed in the national tour of Neil Simon’s female version of The Odd Couple, receiving a National Broadway Theatre nomination for her portrayal of Olive Madison. TV and film credits include The Brady Bunch: The Final Days, Caroline in the City, Frasier, Big Brother Jake, and Daddy Dearest.
