Two-time Tony Award winner
John Lithgow celebrated the opening of the LA engagement of his solo show,
Stories By Heart, on Wednesday, January 5. The show continues its run at the
Mark Taper Forum through February 13.
Opening night guests included Kate Burton, Michael C. Hall, Vik Sahay, Sarah Silverman, Ben Schwartz, Eric Stonestreet, Katherine Tokarz, Ben Vereen, and Robert Wuhl.
Lithgow’s show is a meditation on the art and essence of storytelling. Invoking memories of his grandmother and father, the performer traces his own history as an actor and storyteller – a history spanning three generations. The piece is directed by Jack O’Brien, and features both P.G. Wodehouse’s Uncle Fred Flits By and Ring Lardner’s Haircut.
Lithgow won Tony Awards for his work in Sweet Smell of Success and The Changing Room. He was also Tony-nominated for his performances in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, M. Butterfly, and Requiem for a Heavyweight. Lithgow is well known for his starring role in the TV series Third Rock from the Sun, for which he received three Emmys, a Golden Globe, two SAG awards, and The American Comedy Award. He won a 2010 Golden Globe and was nominated for an Emmy for his work on Showtime’s Dexter.
