Danny Boyle, Joel and Ethan Coen, Roman Polanski, Aaron Sorkin et al. Finalists for Scripter Award

Finalists for the 23rd annual USC Libraries Scripter Award have been announced, according to published reports. Winners will be announced on February 4.

The awards honor the screenwriter or writers of the year’s most accomplished cinematic adaptation as well as the author of the written work upon which the screenplay is based.

Finalists include Danny Boyle and Simon Beaufoy for 127 Hours, adapted from Aron Ralston’s autobiography; Joel and Ethan Coen for True Grit, based upon Charles Portis’ classic Western novel; Debra Granik, Anne Rosellini and author Daniel Woodrell for Winter’s Bone; Roman Polanski for The Ghost Writer, adapted from a novel by Robert Harris; and Aaron Sorkin for The Social Network, adapted from Ben Mezrich’s The Accidental Billionaires: The Founding of Facebook, A Tale of Sex, Money, Genius, and Betrayal.

Among the 58-member selection committee are celebrated actor Ed Harris; film critic Leonard Maltin, screenwriter Eric Roth, and novelist Michael Chabon.
