Synopsis

Brooklyn Boy, by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Donald Margulies, is a wry and often very funny look at a man confronting his past. Both humorous and heart warming, its vivid characters bring a poignant and universal theme to life.

Novelist Eric Weiss has become famous after many years of striving, but his personal life is falling apart. His wife is leaving him, his father is in the hospital, and his aunt tells him he should have worn a tie on the Today show. When Hollywood beckons, it seems as if all his dreams have come true. But he has a lot to learn in this funny and emotionally rich look at family, friends, and fame.

Brooklyn Boy ran on Broadway with Adam Arkin in the starring role. Critics loved the play for its humorous insight into the problems of a suddenly successful writer who re-connects with his family in Brooklyn. The Hollywood Reporter called it "tough, insight¬ful, bittersweet, funny, and wise." Variety said it was "illuminated by sensitivity and humor, by sparkling naturalistic dialogue, and by the grace with which it extends a deeply personal story into a universal realm."

The Bare Bones Theater Company was formed to bring theater education and an appreciation for thought-provoking theater to Long Island's north shore. Founded by Jeff Bennett, Bare Bones presents a rich program of provocative and entertaining drama and comedy to a growing audience, from dedicated theater-goers to first-timers.

No show March 26.
