For our mainstage production this season, we are proud to present the perennial favorite The Pirates of Penzance. The operetta, which enjoyed a successful run on Broadway (starring Kevin Kline and Linda Ronstadt) in the 1980s, tells the story of Frederic, who at a young age was mistakenly apprenticed to a band of Pirates. The play begins on Frederic's 21st birthday--the day he is to be freed of his servitude. To the shock of his fellow Pirates, he declares that not only will he be leaving the Pirate band, but he vows to destroy them all. What follows is one of Gilbert & Sullivan's most delightful stories, with enough swashbuckling, romance and laughs to last a lifetime. The score includes such Gilbert & Sullivan favorites as "I am the Very Model of a Modern Major-General," "Poor Wandering One," "When a Felon's Not Engaged in His Employment" and the rousing "With Cat-Like Tread." With a cast of 30 of Long Island's most popular singer-actors, and our renowned 18-piece orchestra, The Pirates of Penzance is quality entertainment for the entire family. And with our "children under 12 admitted free" policy, it's also a highly affordable way to enjoy and support live theater on Long Island. It's been ten years since we last presented this classic--don't miss your opportunity to join us for The Pirates of Penzance!
