In this World Premiere of Ladies and Gentlemen, Gilbert & Sullivan the Gilbert & Sullivan Light Opera Company of Long Island combines a performance of a rare Arthur Sullivan gem with the latest installment of the Company's trademark G&S revues. The evening begins with Cox and Box. Sullivan's music (with words by F.C. Burnand) is at its liveliest in this cheerfully silly farce. Landlord Bouncer rents the same room to two different men, and unwitting roommates Mr. Cox and Mr. Box encounter all sorts of unsuspecting complications building to a hilarious conclusion. Then the ladies take over, for an all-female revue highlighting some of the best of Gilbert & Sullivan. Three of the company's finest singers appear as some of Gilbert's funniest characters and offer favorites such as "Climbing Over Rocky Mountain," "When a Merry Maiden Marries" and "Three Little Maids from School." Finally, the men join the women on the stage for a rousing finale.
