WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

Rolling Stone has called him "the preeminent male singer/songwriter of the new folk movement." His rich multi-faceted songs full of depth, beauty and emotion have gained increasing attention from critics and audiences across the country as well as in Europe. His stunningly soulful baritone voice engages you the moment you hear him sing. John Gorka's material is championed by many - to date more than a score of artists have recorded and/or performed his songs, including Mary Chapin Carpenter, Mary Black and Maura O'Connell. His voice and unique songcraft weave together in a way that can only be described as "Gorka."

Christine Lavin has built a reputation as one of the observers and chroniclers of modern, urban life. Although she has received little attention on mainstream radio stations, Lavin has built a wide following among critics, folk music fans and public radio listeners. Jay Walljasper of the Utne Reader wrote of Lavin, "Her lilting, elegant voice and sweet, soft melodies belie a tart wit that is somewhat similar to (cartoonist and writer) Lynda Barry's…At times hilarious, at times absurd, at times touching and sometimes all three at once, Lavin is not going to be mistaken for one of those warbling songbirds who give folk music a bad name. She's definitely got an 80s edge.
