Sag Harbor, New York's Bay Street Theatre has announced the launch of The Scott Schwartz New Directions Fund, named after the theater's newest artistic director. The purpose of the new giving fund is to enhance the development and presentation of new productions, performances, and events that will help redefine the Bay Street landscape.

A lead gift of $80,000 has already been donated to the fund by benefactors Pia and Jimmy Zankel. Contributions will be put toward its upcoming Mainstage season, which kicks off on May 31 with Conviction, a new drama written by Carey Crim and directed by Schwartz.

The fund will also support the inaugural Bay Street New Play Festival (scheduled to run from April 25-27), new educational initiatives that include the expansion of Bay Street's kids camp program, the new Bay Street Late Night programming, and a Shakespeare Initiative that will offer outdoor readings of Shakespeare's work.

"I am very excited by our upcoming year of thought-provoking and entertaining productions, our New Play Festival, and the creative ways in which we will continue to engage our community," says Schwartz. "This new fund will enable us to work together to ensure a very successful 2014, and an innovative and sustainable future for Bay Street Theatre."
