Long Beach's flagship professional theatre cuts across age, gender, ethnic, and cultural boundaries, while being entirely self-supporting through ticket sales and membership support. The Playhouse contains two separate theatres. The first, The Mainstage, has a thrust stage with horseshoe seating for 200 on three sides. Contemporary and classic dramas and comedies are presented on the Mainstage each season. The second, the Studio Theatre, a professional 99-seat Equity Theatre, has a proscenium stage on which experimental and adult-oriented works are performed along with traditional plays and musicals.
