 | | Nigel Betts | The cast of the London production of the award-winning play The 39 Steps at the Criterion Theatre will change on July 28. Joining current stars Jo Stone-Fewings and Josefina Gabrielle in the lead roles will be Alan Perrin and Nigel Betts as Man 1 and 2, respectively.
Directed by Maria Aitken, the play is a comedic take on Hitchcock's 1935 classic thriller of the same name about a man who is forced by a mysterious woman's death into a cross-country race for his life. The play is adapted by Patrick Barlow, based on an original concept by Simon Corble and Nobby Dimon and on the book by John Buchan.
The play won the 2007 Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Comedy, and the Broadway production -- now at the Cort Theatre -- was nominated for six Tony Awards, including Best Play, winning two. The show is also on tour throughout the world.
