Following a successful run at the Lyric Hammersmith, Spring Awakening will transfer to the Novello Theatre on March 21.

Spring Awakening is a vibrant and poignant story about a brilliant young student Melchior, his troubled friend Moritz, and Wendla, a beautiful teenage girl -- all on a voyage of personal discovery and sexual awakening.
Inspired by Frank Wedekind's 1891 masterpiece of repressed emotion and adolescent passion, Spring Awakening explodes onto the Lyric stage driven by a thrilling contemporary score by Duncan Sheik (music) and Steven Sater (book and lyrics).

Given its cult status in the US, it was inevitable that Spring Awakening would eventually make the hop over to the UK, but instead of diving straight into the West End, the show has opened at the relatively intimate Lyric Theatre in Hammersmith, a venue with a reputation for staging adventurous work. And instead of importing any of the existing American cast, original director Michael Mayer is working with a group of British unknowns, an approach that, together with the chosen venue, chimes with the show's convention-bucking ethos.
