Branagh, Dunagan, Goldblum, Redgrave, Spacey, et al. Among Whatsonstage Award Nominees

Nominees for the annual Whatsonstage.com Theatregoers Choice Awards have been announced. Over 4,000 people took part in deciding on the nominees. Voting will continue through January, with the winners to be announced on February 9 and a ceremony and concert to be held on February 15 at the Prince of Wales Theatre.

The Donmar Warehouse led all theaters with 18 nominations, including six for its production of Ivanov, including ones for star Kenneth Branagh and co-star Kevin R. McNally. The Royal Shakespeare Company’s Histories cycle and the Menier Chocolate Factory’s revival of La Cage Aux Folles also received six nominations.

Shows that also received multiple nominations include August: Osage County (including one for 2008 Tony Award winner Deanna Dunagan), Black Watch, The Chalk Garden, Fat Pig, Gigi, Imagine This, Jersey Boys, Marguerite, Othello, and Zorro.

Among the notable acting nominations in various categories are Kevin Spacey and Jeff Goldblum, who were jointly nominated for their work in Speed-the-Plow, Lindsay Duncan for That Face, Connie Fisher for They’re Playing Our Song, Maria Friedman for Maria Friedman: Rearranged, Josh Hartnett for Rain Man, Eddie Izzard for Stripped, Ian McDiarmid for Six Characters In Search of an Author, Vanessa Redgrave for The Year of Magical Thinking, Elena Roger for Piaf, Summer Strallen for The Sound of Music, and Natasha Yvette Williams for Gone With the Wind.
