Louise Gold, Caroline Quentin to Join Cast of Menier Chocolate Factory’s Pippin

Menier Chocolate Factory has announced casting for the role of Berthe in Pippin, running November 22 – February 25. Louise Gold will play the part of the title character’s grandmother through January 8. Caroline Quentin will play the role from January 10-22. Additional casting for the remainder of the production’s run will be announced shortly.

Gold’s West End credits include Mary Poppins, Mamma Mia!, Anything Goes, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Ziegfield, among others. Among her film credits are Topsy-Turvy and The Pirates of Penzance.

Quentin was recently seen at the Menier in Terrible Advice. Her other stage credits include Life After Scandal, The London Cuckolds, Roots, Our Country’s Good, Sugar and Spice, and Les Miserables. In addition, she currently stars in BBC1’s Life of Riley and starred in the first three series of Jonathan Creek.

The show, by Stephen Schwartz and Roger O. Hirson, centers on how Pippin, heir to Charlamagne’s throne, goes on a journey to find true happiness in his life, and in the process, comes to grips with lust, sex, war, politics, and religion.

Directed and choreographed by Mitch Sebastian, the production will also feature, as previously announced, Harry Hepple (Pippin), Ian Kelsey (Charlemagne), Matt Rawle (Leading Player), and Frances Ruffelle (Fastrada), Carly Bawden (Catherine), Stuart Neal (Theo), and David Page (Lewis), along with Ben Bunce, Bob Harms, Holly James, Anabel Kutay, David McMullan, and Kate Tydman.

The creative team will include Timothy Bird (scenic and projection design), Ken Billington (lighting design), Jean-Marc Puissant (costume design), Simon Lee (orchestrations and music supervision), and Gareth Owen (sound design).
