Indhu Rubasingham will assume the position of Artistic Director of the Tricycle Theatre in May 2012. She succeeds Nicolas Kent, who, as previously reported, will be stepping down from the position in March, having held the position for 28 years.

Rubasingham’s production of Stones In His Pockets will be seen at the Tricycle in December. Her previous work at the theater includes The Great Game: Afghanistan, Women, Power and Politics, Fabulation, Starstruck and Darfur: How Long Is Never?, as well as Detaining Justice as part of the Not Black and White season.

She has also directed at such theaters as the Almeida Theatre, the Royal Court Theatre, Birmingham Rep, the National Theatre, the Hampstead Theatre and the Chichester Festival Theatre.

Among Rubasingham’s current projects are a play based on the short story, Africa Kills Her Sun, by Ken Siro-Wiwa, and a new musical as part of the Sundance Theatre Lab. In addition, she will direct Belong by Bola Agbaje at the Royal Court Theatre next year.

Among her honors are the Carlton Multi-Cultural Achievement Award for Performing Arts and the Liberty Human Rights Award, which she received jointly with Nicolas Kent in 2010.
