Ellen Burstyn, Carol Kane, Keira Knightley, Elisabeth Moss, et al. Set for London’s The Children’s Hour

Ellen Burstyn, Carol Kane, Amy Dawson, Bryony Hannah and Tobias Menzies will join the previously announced Keira Knightley and Elisabeth Moss in Lillian Hellman’s The Children’s Hour, to be directed by Ian Rickson, which will play the West End’s Comedy Theatre, January 22-April 2. Additional casting is still to be announced.

Hellman’s play focuses on the events that transpire after a troubled teenager starts to spin a web of deceit about two teachers at an all-girls boarding school.

Burstyn received the Tony Award for Same Time, Next Year and has also appeared on Broadway in 84 Charing Cross Road, Shirley Valentine, and Oldest Living Confederate Widow Tells All. She is a six-time Academy Award nominee, and won the Oscar for Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore.

Kane’s stage credits include Wicked, Love, Loss, and What I Wore, The Tempest, Macbeth and The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie. For her extensive work on television, she has won two Emmy Awards, for her portrayal of Simka Dahblitz-Gravas on Taxi. In addition, she received an Oscar nomination for her performance in Annie Hall.

Crane is currently appearing in Design for Living at the Old Vic. Her other theatre credits include Love the Sinner, Angels in America, Now or Later, The Sweetest Swing in Baseball, Our Late Night, and The Strip.

Dawson has been seen on stage in That Face, Edmond, and I’ll Leave It To You, among others. Hannah’s theatre credits include Earthquakes in London, Every Good Boy Deserves Favour, The Pillowman and War Horse. Menzies is best known on screen for playing Brutus in BBC television series Rome. His many theater credits include King Lear, Cloud Nine, Platonov, and The History Boys, along with the title role in Rupert Goold’s production of Hamlet at the Theatre Royal Northampton.
