Tom Stoppard’s Shakespeare In Love to Hit London Stage

Disney Theatrical Productions is partnering with Sonia Friedman Productions to produce a play adaptation of Tony Award winner Tom Stoppard’s Oscar-winning screenplay Shakespeare in Love in London, according to Variety.


The production will be directed by Tony Award winner Jack O’Brien and designed by Tony Award winner Bob Crowley.


The 1998 film posited how Shakespeare (played by Joseph Fiennes) met a young woman (played by Gwyneth Paltrow), leading him to write Romeo and Juliet..


Stoppard’s many plays include The Coast of Utopia, The Real Thing, Rock and Roll, Jumpers, Travesties, The Invention of Love, and Arcadia.


O’Brien has received Tony Awards for his direction of The Coast of Utopia, Henry IV, and Hairspray. He was most recently represented on Broadway by Catch Me If You Can.


Crowley has won Tony Awards for his designs of The Coast of Utopia, Mary Poppins, The History Boys, Aida, and Carousel.
