Gareth Gates to Play Marius in West End Les Miserables

Gareth Gates will assume the role of Marius in the West End production of Les Miserables, playing at the Queen’s Theatre,, according to a report on Whatsonstage.com. He will be replacing Alistair Brammer.

He will first perform the role October 18-November 20, and after a hiatus, will return to the show January 31-June 18.

Gates recently played Marius in the 25th anniversary tour of the musical. He is perhaps best known for his appearances on television’s Pop Idol. Among his other theater credits is Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat in the West End.

He joins a company which also features Simon Bowman (Jean Valjean), Norm Lewis (Javert), Lucie Jones (Cosette), Rebecca Seale (Fantine), Martin Ball (Thenardier), Lorraine Bruce (Madame Thenardier) and Killian Donnelly (Enjolras).

Based on Victor Hugo’s classic novel of the same name, the show features music by Claude-Michel Schönberg, lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer from the original French text by Alain Boublil and Jean-Marc Natel and additional material by James Fenton.
