Judi Dench, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, et. al. Featured on RSC’s Essential Shakespeare CD Set

Judi Dench, Sir Ian McKellen, and Patrick Stewart are some of the artists whose interpretations of soliloquies and scenes from Shakespeare are preserved on the Royal Shakespeare Company and British Library’s second CD set of The Essential Shakespeare. The recordings on the discs come from nearly 50 years of RSC productions from both Stratford-upon-Avon and London.

Productions included in the set include Paul Robeson’s Othello, Peter Brook’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Trevor Nunn’s The Winter’s Tale, Sam Mendes’ Troilus and Cressida and the RSC’s recent production of Hamlet starring David Tennant.

Other performers heard on the discs include Roger Allam, Simon Russell Beale, Frances de la Tour, Ian Holm, Ben Kingsley, Jonathan Pryce, David Suchet, Juliet Stevenson, Ian Richardson, and Harriet Walter.
