Barbican International Theatre Events 2009 Announces Programming

Programming has been announced for the first half of the Barbican International Theatre Events 2009, which will be performed in the Barbican Theatre, The Pit, in and around the Barbican Centre, and in the Guildhall School’s Silk Street Theatre.

The offerings include Israeli company Cameri’s Plonti, which presents perspectives from both sides of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict (January 27-February 7); Complicite’s new Japanese-devised piece Shun-kin (January 30-February 21), conceived and directed by Simon McBurney and inspired by the work of Jun’ichiro Tanizaki; Boy Blue Entertainment’s Pied Piper, a hip-hop dance interpretation of Robert Browning’s classic poem “The Pied Piper of Hamlin” (March 5-14); and Yukio Ninagawa’s Kabuki version of Twelfth Night (March 24-28).

Also on tap are Inferno, Purgatorio, Paradiso, an epic trilogy freely inspired by Dante’s Divine Comedy (April 2-9); The National Theatre of Scotland and Dundee Rep co-production of Ibsen’s Peer Gynt (April 30-May 6); Improbable’s new work Panic, which is drawn from personal stories and current obsessions with love and illness (April 15-May 16); and Cheek by Jowl’s French-language production of Racine’s Andromache (April 22-May 2).
