Matilda the Musical Original Cast Recording Now Available

The original cast recording for Matilda The Musical is now available from the RSC Shop or via the show’s website.

Based on Roald Dahl’s 1988 children’s novel, the show has a book by Dennis Kelly and music and lyrics by Tim Minchin. The musical was recorded in a studio by the original cast from the sell-out season at the RSC’s Courtyard Theatre. The album includes 17 original numbers from the production, including “When I Grow Up,” “Revolting Children,” and “The Smell of Rebellion.”

As previously reported, Matilda will transfer to the West End’s Cambridge Theatre, beginning performances on October 18. The show premiered last December at the company’s Courtyard Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon. Tony Award winner Matthew Warchus will direct and Peter Darling will choreograph the show.

In the musical, the central character is a little girl with astonishing wit, intelligence and psychokinetic powers. She’s unloved by her parents but impresses her schoolteacher and, over the course of her first term at school, teacher and pupil have a profound effect on each other’s lives
