Whoopi Goldberg to Return to West End Sister Act in Late October

Whoopi Goldberg will return to the role of Mother Superior in the West End production of Sister Act, for five performances, October 22-25. The show, as previously reported, will play its final performance on October 30, and is expect to bow on Broadway in Spring 2011.

Goldberg played the part during much of August, but departed the production on August 26 to be with her family after her mother suffered a stroke; Goldberg announced on September 7 that her mother had passed away on August 29.

Sister Act, with a score by Alan Menken and a book Cheri and Bill Steinkellner, is directed by Peter Schneider and choreographed by Anthony Van Laast. The creative team includes Klara Zieglerova (scenic design), Lez Brotherston (costume design), Mick Potter (sound design) and Natasha Katz (lighting design).

The company features Patina Miller as Deloris Van Cartier, as well as Sally Dexter (Mother Superior), Simon Webbe (Curtis Shank), Ian Lavender (Monsignor), Ako Mitchell (Eddie), Katie Rowley Jones (Sister Mary Robert), Claire Greenway (Sister Mary Patrick), Jacqueline Clarke (Sister Mary Lazarus), Nicholas Colicos (Bones), Thomas Goodridge (TJ), and Ivan De Freitas (Dinero).
