Peter Davison and Jill Halfpenny Join Sheridan Smith, et al. in London’s Legally Blonde

Final casting has been announced for the West End production of the hit Broadway musical Legally Blonde. The production, to be directed and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell, will begin preview performances on December 5 at the Savoy Theatre, and will open January 13.

Peter Davison (Callahan) and Jill Halfpenny (Paulette) will join previously announced stars Sheridan Smith (Elle Woods), Duncan James (Warner Huntington III), Alex Gaumond (Emmett Forrest), Aoife Mulholland (Brooke), and Susan McFadden (Serena).

The cast will also include Emma Bateman (Stenographer), Dan Burton (Padamadan, Nikos), Darren Carnall (Kiki), Chris Ellis-Stanton (Grandmaster Chad, Dewey, Kyle), Nadine Higgin (Judge, Saleswoman), Ibinabo Jack (Pilar), Caroline Keiff (Vivienne Kensington), Amy Lennox (Margot), Andy Mace (Dad, Winthrop, Reporter), Sorelle Marsh (Courtney, Mom, Whitney), Suzie McAdam (Enid), Matthew McKenna (Aaron), Sean Mulligan (Pforzheimer), Roxanne Palmer (Kate, Chutney), Sergio Priftis (Carlos), Tamara Wall (District Attorney), and Ed White (Lowell). Jane McMurtrie, Sherrie Pennington, Lucy Miller, Fabian Aloise and Francis Haugen will serve as swings.

Legally Blonde, which premiered on Broadway in April 2007, is based on the 2001 Hollywood comedy about sorority girl Elle Woods who follows her ex-boyfriend Warner to Harvard Law School in an attempt to win him back. The show has a book by Heather Hach and music and lyrics by husband-and-wife team Nell Benjamin and Laurence O’Keefe. The creative team includes David Rockwell (sets), Gregg Barnes (costumes), Kenneth Posner and Paul Miller (lighting), ACME Sound Partners (sound), and Christopher Jahnke (orchestrations).

Smith received an Olivier Award nomination for Little Shop of Horrors. Her other stage credits include Bugsy Malone, Into the Woods, A Midsummer’s Night Dream and The Taming of the Shrew. James previously starred in Chicago and is best known as a member of the band Blue. Gaumond’s stage credits include We Will Rock You, Desperately Seeking Susan, and Guys and Dolls. McFadden was the winner of the Grease Is the Word reality TV show, while Mulholland is best known for I’d Do Anything. Davison is well known for playing the fifth incarnation of the Doctor in Doctor Who. Halfpenny is best known for her role as Kate Mitchell in EastEnders.
