Jones was associated with the Royal Shakespeare Company from 1966, where he worked extensively, and was artistic director of the Brooklyn Academy of Music Theatre Company in New York for three years starting in 1979. He was last represented in the West End with his production of The Last Confession, starring David Suchet.
Jones worked in television and film, both in America and the UK, for nearly 50 years, including directing the feature film versions of Pinter's Betrayal, starring Jeremy Irons and Ben Kingsley , and Hugh Whitemore's 84 Charing Cross Road, starring Anne Bancroft, Anthony Hopkins, and Judi Dench.
