Michael Hodgson, Ian Kelly, et al. Set for West End’s The Pitmen Painters

Casting has been announced for Lee Hall’s The Pitmen Painters, which will begin previews at the West End’s Duchess Theatre on October 5 in anticipation of an official opening on October 11. Max Roberts has directed the production.

The play, which takes its inspiration from actual events from the 1930s, centers on a group of British coalminers who discover that they have untapped talents as artists. Casting will be announced in the near future.

The company will feature original cast members Ian Kelly as Robert Lyon, Michael Hodgson as Harry Wilson, David Whitaker as Jimmy Floyd and Brian Lonsdale as Young Lad/Ben Nicholson, along with Trevor Fox as Oliver Kilbourn. Joy Brook as Helen Sutherland, Viktoria Kay as Susan Parks, Joe Caffrey as George Brown.

The creative team will include scenic and costume designer Gary McCann, lighting designer Douglas Kuhrt and sound designer Martin Hodgson.
