Garry Hynes, Alan Rickman, Fiona Shaw, et al. Set for Ulster Bank Dublin Theatre Festival

Garry Hynes, Alan Rickman, and Fiona Shaw will be among the artists participating in this year’s Ulster Bank Dublin Theatre Festival, to run September 30-October 17.

Hynes will direct Seán O’Casey’s The Silver Tassie (October 5-10), which follows the lives of two young footballing heroes from the tenements of Dublin through the battlefields of France and their return home.

Rickman and Shaw will appear together in the Abbey Theatre’s production of Frank McGuinness’ new version of Ibsen’s John Gabriel Borkman (October 6-16). James MacDonald directs a cast that also includes Cathy Belton, Lindsay Duncan, John Kavanagh, Amy Molloy, Marty Rea, and Joan Sheehy.

Featured productions will also include the Olivier Award-winning Enron, directly
on the heels of an extended West End run, and the OBIE award-winning American production No Child… inspired by Nilaja Sun’s years as a teaching artist in high schools in the Bronx.

Among the other highlights of the festival, which is Europe’s oldest theater festival, are Rough Magic’s new version of Phaedra, by Hilary Fannin and Ellen Cranitch, directed by Lynne Parker; Pan Pan’s world premiere of The Rehearsal, Playing The Dane, a purgatorial iteration of Shakespeare’s Hamlet, directed by Gavin Quinn; The Gate’s presentation of works by Beckett, Pinter and Mamet; the Peacock’s B for Baby, by Carmel Winters; Krystian Lupa’s epic, 7 1/2-hour production about Andy Warhol, Factory 2; Grzegorz Jarzyna’s T.E.O.R.E.M.A.T., inspired by the Pasolini cult film Teorema; Jan Klata’s The Danton Case, adapted from a Polish play set in the French Revolution; and Phillippe Quesne’s LEffet de Serge.
