Bourne, Griffey, Harrower, Williams, et al. Set for Edinburgh International Festival

The Edinburgh International Festival, in Edinburgh, Scotland, will run from August 8-31, featuring a wide variety of opera, ballet, music and theater from around the globe.

Matthew Bourne will premiere his new dance-theater piece Dorian Gray, based on Oscar Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray, now set in the image-obsessed world of contemporary art and politics. The creative team includes designer Lez Brotherston, composer Terry Davies, and lighting designer Paule Constable. The company will be led by Richard Winsor as Dorian, Michela Meazza as Lady H, and Aaron Sillis as Basil Hallward. Other cast members include Scott Ambler, Ashley Bain, Jared Hageman, Chris Marney, and Shaun Walters.

Theater offerings will include David Harrower’s 365 One Night to Learn a Lifetime from the National Theatre of Scotland, which focuses on young people living in practice flats as they prepare to leave care; Nigel Williams’ play Class Enemy by East West Theatre Company, and a new adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s The Tell Tale Heart written by Barrie Kosky and starring Martin Niedermair.

In addition, Poland’s TR Warszawa company will present The Dybbuk and Sarah Kane’s 4.48 Psychosis; the Palestinian National Theatre will offer Mahmoud Darwish’s Jidariyya; and Theatre Vidy-Lausanne will present the world premiere of Heiner Goebbels’ I Went to the House But Did Not Enter.
