Bryony Lavery’s Origin of the Species Slated for Arcola Theatre

Bryony Lavery’s Origin of the Species, a re-imagining of the theory of evolution, will take to the stage of the Arcola Theatre this fall, running October 27 – November 21. The production, to be directed by Tom Littler (Saturday Night, Jingo: A Farce of War), coincides with the 150th anniversary of the publication of Darwin’s groundbreaking treatise.

In the play, an archaeologist discovers a prehistoric skeleton on a dig in Africa, but doesn’t imagine what will follow her discovery; the skeleton returns to life and takes up residence in her small cottage in Yorkshire.

Lavery’s plays include the award-winning Frozen as well as Kursk, The Wicked Lady, and Her Aching Heart. The production will feature scenic and costume design by Victoria Johnstone and lighting design by Christopher Nairne.
