Emma Hamilton, Lex Shrapnel to Star in Hedda Gabler at the Royal & Derngate Theatre
Emma Hamilton will star in the title role of Andrew Upton’s adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler, to run July 6-28 at the Royal & Derngate Theatre in Northampton as part of the London 2012 Festival.
Directed by Laurie Sansom, the cast also features Lex Shrapnel (Ejlert Lovborg), Jack Hawkins, Sue Wallace, Matti Houghton, and Janice McKenzie. The production will feature scenic and costume design by Ruth Sutcliffe, with lighting design by Philip Gladwell and sound design by Ben Harrison.
Upton’s adaptation was seen in New York in 2006, with Cate Blanchett in the title role. It’s European premiere at the Royal & Derngate is the conclusion of the theater’s Festival of Chaos trilogy.
