Michael Boyd, Rupert Goold, et al. to Direct for RSC’s London Roundhouse Season; Casting Announced

The Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) has announced directors and casting for its ten-week repertory season at London’s Roundhouse, to run November 30 – February 5.

The season will open with Romeo and Juliet (November 30 – January 1), directed by Rupert Goold. In addition, David Farr will direct The Winter’s Tale (December 14 – January 1) and King Lear (January 21 – February 4), while Michael Boyd will stage Antony and Cleopatra (December 8 – December 30) and As You Like It (January 13 – February 5). The season will also include Julius Caesar (January 6 – February 5), directed by Lucy Bailey. As previously announced, five of these productions will be presented as part of the Lincoln Center Festival in 2011 at the Park Avenue Amory.

The company will feature Charles Aitken Joseph Arkley, Adam Burton, David Carr, Brian Doherty, Darrell D’Silva, Noma Dumezweni, Dyfan Dwyfor, Phillip Edgerley, Christine Entwisle, Geoffrey Freshwater, James Gale, Mariah Gale, Gruffudd Glyn, Paul Hamilton, Greg Hicks, James Howard, Kathryn Hunter, Kelly Hunter, Ansu Kabia, Tunji Kasim, Richard Katz, Debbie Korley, John MacKay, Forbes Masson, Sandy Neilson, Jonjo O’Neill, Dharmesh Patel, Peter Peverley, Patrick Romer, David Rubin, Sophie Russell, Peter Shorey, Clarence Smith, Katy Stephens, James Traherne, Sam Troughton, James Tucker, Larrington Walker, Kirsty Woodward, Hannah Young, and Samantha Young.

In addition to these six pieces, the RSC will also offer two productions of Shakespeare that have been adapted specifically for families and younger audiences: Hamlet (December 18, January 26), directed by Terll Alvin McCraney and The Comedy of Errors (December 21, February 1), directed by Paul Hunter, and presented in association with Told by an Idiot. The company’s programming will also present include a special online radio program created by young people, based on the ghost story in Hamlet and a special spoken-word program, presented live and also written by young people, that will be developed from Shakespeare’s texts.
