Blithe Spirit, Starring Alison Steadman, to Reach West End in March

Alison Steadman will play Madame Arcati in Noel Coward’s Blithe Spirit for a limited season at the Apollo Theater, Shaftesbury Avenue, March 2 – June 18, according to Whatsonstage.com. As previously reported, Thea Sharrock will direct the production that will debut at the Bath Theatre Royal, where it will run November 3-13.

Before reaching the West End, the production will play touring engagements in Brighton, Cambridge, Milton Keanes, and Richmond.

Steadman won an Olivier Award for her performance in The Rise and Fall of Little Voice and originated the role of Beverly in Abigail’s Party. She was most recently seen in the West End in Alan Bennett’s Enjoy. Her many screen credits include Shirley Valentine, Life Is Sweet, Topsy Turvy, Fat Friends, Fanny Hill, and Gavin and Stacey.

Sharrock’s production of Terence Rattigan’s After the Dance recently opened at the National Theatre. She has directed Blithe Spirit previously. Her 2004 production of the comedy also began in Bath before transferring to the West End.
