RSC’s Hamlet with Stewart and Tennant to Play West End

The Royal Shakespeare Company’s production of Hamlet, which will play Stratford-upon-Avon’s Courtyard Theatre, July 24-November 15, will move to London’s Novello Theatre, December 3-January 10. The production will be directed by Gregory Doran, and designed by Robert Jones, with lighting by Tim Mitchell, music by Paul Englishby, sound by Jeremy Dunn, movement by Michael Ashcroft, and fight direction by Terry King.

The show will star David Tennant in the title role and Patrick Stewart as the Ghost and Claudius, along with Penny Downie (Gertrude), Oliver Ford-Davies (Polonius), Mariah Gale (Ophelia), John Woodvine (the Player King), David Ajala (Reynaldo), Sam Alexander (Rosencrantz and Second Gravedigger), Edward Bennett (Laertes), Ricky Champ (Lucianus), Ewen Cummins (Barnardo), Robert Curtis (Francisco), Tom Davey (Guildenstern), Peter De Jersey (Horatio), Samuel Dutton (Lord), Ryan Gage (Osric), Mark Hadfield (Gravedigger), Jim Hooper (Priest), Keith Osborn (Marcellus), Roderick Smith (Lord and Captain), Andrea Harris (Lady), Riann Steele (Lady), and Zoe Thorne (Lady and Player).

The Novello season will also include two other Stratford transfers: Doran’s production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream (January 15-February 7) and Conall Morrison’s production of The Taming of the Shrew (February 12-March 17).

Meanwhile, the RSC’s residency at the Wilton Music Hall will feature Adriano Shiplin’s The Tragedy of Thomas Hobbes (November 12-December 6) and Marina Carr’s two-hander The Cordelia Dream (December 11-January 10).
