Ejiofor, McTeer, et al. Make Queen’s Birthday Honours List

Actors Chiwetel Ejiofor and Janet McTeer were among the stage names singled out for their services to the arts as part of the annual Queen’s Birthday Honours list, announced this past weekend.

Ejiofor adds an OBE (Order of the British Empire) to his haul of other prizes this year for his title performance in the Donmar Warehouse production of Othello. His other stage credits include Blue/Orange, Romeo and Juliet, The Vortex and The Seagull, which is due to transfer to Broadway this fall. His many film credits include Redbelt, Children of Men, Kinky Boots, Love Actually, and Dirty Pretty Things.

McTeer, who also receives an OBE, won the Olivier and Tony Awards for A Doll’s House. Her many stage credits include God of Carnage, Mary Stuart, The Duchess of Malfi, and The Taming of the Shrew.

Other recipients of honors include playwrights Roy Williams and Tanika Gupta, comedienne Victoria Wood, Paul O’Grady, Southbank Centre chief executive Michael Lynch, former Arts Council chief executive Peter Hewitt, and Royal Ballet director Monica Mason.
