Sammy Andrews, Alexander Beck, Jamie Birkett Set for Finborough Theatre’s Merrie England

Finborough Theatre has announced casting for Merrie England, playing May 27-June 12. Alex Sutton will direct, with musical direction by Eamonn O’ Dwyer.

Originally written for the Savoy Theatre in 1902, Merrie England will celebrate both the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee as well as the 150th anniversary of the birth of composer Edward German. It is an English light opera in the style made famous by Gilbert and Sullivan and features a prominent chorus and a range of principal numbers. Libretto is by Basil Hood

The cast will feature Sammy Andrews, Alexander Beck, Jamie Birkett, Daniel Cane, Luke Courtier, Stephen Darcy, Virge Gilchrist, Tom Giles, Stuart Hickey, Rachel Holbrook, Nichola Jolley, Christopher Killik, Ruth Leavesley, Brendan Matthew, Michael Riseley, Jody Ellen Robinson, Gemma Sandzer, and Rhys Saunders.

The design team will include Philip Lindley (set design), Miguel Vicente (lighting design), and Sophia Anastasiou (costume design).
