Olivier Award winner Jenna Russell will star in writer-director Victoria Wood’s That Day We Sang, according to WhatsOnStage.com. As previously reported, the production will be presented at the Manchester International Festival. It will perform in the city’s Opera House, July 6-16.

Set in the summer of 1969, the show follows Tubby, an overweight insurance man, and Enid, a buttoned up secretary (played by Russell), who were once singers with the Manchester School Children’s Choir and are trying to reconnect with who they were then, and who they could be now.

The cast will also include Vincent Franklin as Tubby, along with Lorraine Bruce, Jemma Drake, Gerard Horan, Ian Marr and Martin Savage. The production will feature set and costume design by Lez Brotherston, and musical direction by Nigel Lilley.

Russell won an Olivier Award for her performance in the Menier Chocolate Factory’s revival of Sunday in the Park With George, and received a Tony nomination for her work in that production’s Broadway mounting. Recent stage credits also include Season’s Greetings and Into the Woods.
