Debbie Kurup, Jonathan Wilkes to Join Chicago in the West End

Debbie Kurup will assume the role of Velma Kelly and Jonathan Wilkes will assume the role of Billy Flynn in the West End production of Chicago, playing at the Cambridge Theatre, on May 9, and both will continue with the show through June 26. Walter Bobbie has directed the production, which has choreography by Ann Reinking.

Kurup previously played Velma in the production in 2006 and most recently has been seen in the West End in Sister Act. Wilkes’ other stage credits include The Rocky Horror Show in the West End as well as U.K. Tours of We Will Rock You, The Wedding Singer, Guys and Dolls, Tommy, and Grease.

Kurup and Wilkes will join a company that also features Sarah Soetaert as Roxie Hart, James Doherty as Amos Hart, Jasna Ivir as Mama Morton and R. Whitehead as Mary Sunshine.

With music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb and a book by Ebb and Bob Fosse, Chicago focuses on the ways in which two women attempt to exploit their crimes for show business success.
