Danielle Hope has won the BBC’s Over the Rainbow casting show and landed the role of Dorothy in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s production of The Wizard of Oz, which will begin performances on March 29 at the London Palladium in the West End. Hope’s co-star Toto will be played by a mini schnauzer called Dave, or “Dangerous Dave” as he is known to his owner.

Hope’s single, “Over the Rainbow,” is now available to download, with a physical copy to be released on May 31. The performer beat Sophie Evans, who finished in second place during Saturday’s two live shows, and Lauren Samuels, who came third.

No other casting or creative team has been announced for the new production, which is expected to feature new songs specially written for it by Lloyd Webber and lyricist Glenn Slater.
