Tony Award-winning Avenue Q's fantasies are coming true. Robert Lopez, Jeff Marx, and Jeff Whitty's lovable, racy musical is returning to London for its fringe premiere at Highgate's Upstairs at the Gatehouse. The production is set to open on May 21.

Avenue Q was previously seen on the West End in 2006 at the Albery Theatre (now the Noël Coward) and subsequently on a tour at various West End venues as well as in consecutive runs at the Gielgud and the Wyndham. The puppet residents of Avenue Q made their home Off-Broadway at the Vineyard Theatre in 2003 before transferring to Broadway and then returning to Off-Broadway in 2009 to its current home at New World Stages.

Avenue Q will be produced by resident company Ovations (who obviously did not get their B.A. in English). John Plews will direct this production with supervision by Angharad Sanders, musical direction by Simon Burrow, and choreography by Grant Murphy. Paul Jomain will literally bring the monster residents of Avenue Q to life as the production's puppet maker. Lighting will be designed by Aaron J. Dootson and sound by Jon Raper. Original London cast member Simon Lipkin will act as associate director. Currently seen in the London production of Rock of Ages, Lipkin played Nicky and Trekkie Monster in the West End's Avenue Q.

Casting for its London fringe premiere at Highgate's Upstairs at the Gatehouse will be announced soon. Performances will begin on May 16 followed by the official opening on May 21. This uproariously funny musical will run through June 30.

If you like to laugh about racism, other people's misfortune, or Gary Coleman, or if your life simply sucks, check out Upstairs at the Gatehouse's website here for more information on this outrageously hilarious musical.
