Based on the novel The Tale of the 1002nd Night by Viennese author Joseph Roth, the show features music by Johann Strauss II, adapted and arranged by Jonathan Tunick, a book by Richard Nelson, and lyrics by Ellen Fitzhugh.
Set in Vienna during the Austro-Hungarian empire, the story centers on the Shah of Iran who, despite already having 139 wives, falls in love with the empress.
The show will star Mandy Patinkin, Shuler Hensley, Judy Kaye, John McMartin, Nancy Opel, Kate Baldwin, George Lee Andrews, Amanda Kloots-Larsen, Lacey Kohl, Herndon Lackey, Daniel Marcus, Jim Poulos, Martin van Treuren, and Pamelow Winslow Kashani.
The production will feature set design by Beowulf Boritt, costumes by Judith Dolan, lighting by Howell Binkley, sound by Gareth Owen, and music direction by Charles Prince.
