Peter Cheeseman, Founding Director of the New Vic in Staffordshire, Dies at 78

Peter Cheeseman, founding director of the New Vic in Staffordshire, has died after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease, according to published reports. He was 78.

Cheeseman assisted in the establishment of The Victoria Theatre in Stoke-on-Trent and its successor The New Vic Theatre in Newcastle-under-Lyme. It was this latter organization which eventually became the the New Vic Theatre in 1986.

Later this year, there will be a memorial celebration of Cheeseman’s life and legacy at the New Vic. Details will be announced nearer the time.
