Darius Campbell will sing the role of Escamillo in Bizet’s Carmen at London’s O2 Arena on May 23. The production, directed by David Freeman, will run at the venue May 21-23.

Campbell — formerly known as Darius Danesh — has adopted his mother’s maiden name to reflect his Scottish ancestry, and was last seen on stage in Trevor Nunn’s Gone with the Wind. He also appeared in Michael Grandage’s Guys and Dolls. The performer recently won the ITV reality series Popstar To Operastar, in which he sang an aria from Carmen. Previously, he had been a contestant on Pop Stars and Pop Idol.
